The foreign ministers of RussiaSergei Lavrov, and China, Wang Yi, opted today in Astana to increase the coordination of Moscow and Beijing in the main international organizations, such as the UNthe Shanghai Cooperation Organization (CSO) and the BRICS countries, among others.
“The willingness of both sides to increase mutual coordination within the framework of the UN and its Security Council, the SCO, the BRICS, the G20, APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) and other key international organizations was confirmed”the Russian Foreign Ministry reported in a statement.
According to Russian diplomacy, the ministers met this Monday in Astana within the framework of the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the SCO that will start this Tuesday.
The ministers also discussed “a series of burning issues, including the resolution of the conflict of middle Eastthe situation in the Red Sea and the Korean Peninsula”, indicated Foreign Affairs.
“The need to erect a new Eurasian security architecture in the context of the failure of Euro-Atlantic mechanisms was underlined”noted Russian diplomacy.
Lavrov took the opportunity to thank his Chinese counterpart for the “warm reception” offered to the Russian president, Vladimir Putinin China, while Wang highlighted the importance of the Russian president choosing his country as the first destination of a visit after the inauguration for his fifth term.
“The ministers confirmed the key importance of high-level contacts for the future strengthening of partnership relations and strategic interaction between both countries, they discussed in detail the fulfillment of the agreements reached at the Beijing summit and other issues on the bilateral agenda” , added Foreign Affairs.
In particular, Lavrov thanked his Chinese colleagues for their “balanced” position on the war in Ukraine and welcomed the proposal of Chinese leader Xi Jinping to organize a peace conference that takes into account the interests of Moscow and kyiv.
