Guardiola leaves his stay at Manchester City beyond 2025 in doubt

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola left his stay at the club beyond 2025 in doubt, after achieving a fourth consecutive Premier League title, an unprecedented feat in England.

“The truth is that I’m closer to leaving than staying,” Guardiola declared in an interview with the channel Sky Sports on Sunday.

“It’s been eight years [à frente do City]there will be nine”, he added.

Asked if he had the feeling of having achieved everything in his role, the 53-year-old Catalan coach replied: “I already had that feeling last season (…) When we won in Istanbul [a Liga dos Campeões], said: ‘It’s over, what am I doing here? It’s over, there’s nothing left to do.”

“But I have a contract [até junho de 2025], I’m here and I’m still enjoying it. Sometimes I get a little tired, but at other times I love it,” added Guardiola.

“Now I don’t have the capacity to know what my motivation will be for next season, because sometimes it’s difficult to find it when you win everything”, acknowledged the coach.

“When I arrived here, if someone had told me I would win six leagues in seven seasons, I would have said: ‘You’re crazy’,” he continued.

“Now my feeling is that I want to stay next season, we have time to talk to the club about next season, I have to see about the players too, if they follow me. I will continue and during the season we will talk.”

In England, only legendary Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson has better numbers than Guardiola, with 13 titles over 28 years at the helm of the ‘Red Devils’.

Under Guardiola’s command, City became the first English club to achieve the national “triple crown” (Premier League, FA Cup and English League Cup, in 2019), before the dreamed-of first Champions League title, last season. .
