The opposition presidential candidate Xochitl Galvez He assured this Friday that, if he becomes President, he will defend the rights of the community LGBTI+ and that he will integrate people from the sexual diversity community into his Government.
During the Sexual Diversity Forum, to commemorate the International Day against Homophobia, Lesbophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, Gálvez said that his potential Government will do everything necessary to end discrimination against LGBTI+ populations.
“Discrimination that still exists in the educational, political and economic workplace and also telling you that you are going to be part of my Government or in top-level positions,” express.
He assured that LGBTI+ people “They will be part of the Government, but they will also be part of following up (on actions in their favor).”
“I want us to supervise the work and for them to be part of those advisory councils and for institutions like the Council to Prevent and Eliminate Discrimination of the City of Mexico (Copred) work again and promote anti-discrimination policies,” he asserted.
In addition, she said that there will be campaigns against all attacks suffered by trans women. “(…) All this that is happening, all these hate homicides we have to eradicate, the two main problems that our country suffers from are violence and the lack of health services and you too, you are suffering from it and in “These two issues, the LGBTI+ community has been seriously affected,” he assured.
The candidate of the coalition made up of the Institutional Revolutionary Parties (PRI), National Action (PAN) and the Democratic Revolution (PRD) parties pointed out that in the last five years in the country “There are at least 453 murders motivated by hate”according to an annual report of violent deaths and prejudice crimes against the LGBTI+ community.
He said that to combat hate crimes, public servants, police forces and law enforcement personnel will be trained and, also, “We are going to raise awareness among all health professionals to avoid discriminatory acts against the population of sexual diversity”he added, in addition to promising a better health system
He cited that of the people living with HIV, according to official data, “In Mexico they only have access to antiretroviral treatments, four out of every 10 people who require it.”
Gálvez, second in the polls, accepted that it has been difficult to represent a conservative party like the PAN on these types of issues.
He said that just as “The (Catholic) Church is beginning to move from positions that in the past were radical (…) I too within the PAN bench, because I have been a bit disruptive. “I voted against conversion therapies from day one.”he assured
In the elections on June 2, the largest in the history of Mexico, more than 98 million citizens are called to the polls to renew 20,375 positions, including the Presidency, the 500 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and the 128 of the Senate, as well as nine state governments, including Mexico City.
