Work on the latest comedy about vampires, “Life for Beginners”, directed by Paweł Podolski, has been completed. Genre films are still rather rare in Polish cinematography, so it is worth taking an interest in each new offering.
A deeply human story with a vampire twist
“Life for Beginners” can be interpreted as a metaphor for the human condition in the face of the inevitability of death and eternity. Through the prism of humor and vampire motifs, the film asks questions about the meaning of life, fear of the unknown and the value of human relationships. In the context of Polish cinema, where more conventional narratives dominate, this film stands out for its bold approach to difficult topics.
Director Paweł Podolski, working with Lynn Kucharczyk on the script, plays with convention, breaking stereotypes about the genre. “Often people are afraid of vampires, but are vampires really what we should be afraid of?” – Podolski wonders, expressing his belief that real horror may lie in human behavior, not in mythical creatures.
there is Monia, played by Magdalena Maścianica, a vampire struggling with her own fears and uncertainty about the curse of immortality. In one night, he tries to convince Mirek, his created suicide vampire, to accept his fate. Bartłomiej Kotschedoff, who plays Mirek, admits: “While playing Mirek, I felt every nuance of this tragic character whose desire to die becomes impossible”.
He stood behind the camera experienced Ernest Wilczyńskiwhose visual skills combined with Hanka Podraza’s characteristic costumes and Radosław Zielonka’s set design created a unique atmosphere of the film.
What does Michał Sikorski say about the film?
who plays the role of Czarek, emphasizes the personal dimension of participation in the project: “Working on ‘Life for Beginners’ is the realization of my artistic dreams. The film combines humor with emotional depth, which is rare in Polish cinema. His character, Czarek, is a deadly counterweight to the two main characters, which adds drama to the relationships between the characters.

The film is expected to debut on the big screen in the coming months, and its premiere is eagerly awaited by both critics and genre lovers. The final reception of “Life for Beginners” will show whether the Polish audience is ready for another innovative approach to film narrative.
