In a recent interview with the American television channel Univisionthe president of Argentina, Javier Mileistated that he will not talk with the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Madurowhom he considers a “dictator”. This statement arises in a context of growing political tensions in Venezuela, where presidential election next July 28.

During the interview, Milei expressed his concern about the electoral process in Venezuela, indicating that “There will have to be a battle to control the election because the regime is trying to make it its own”.

In Venezuela, current President Nicolás Maduro will seek re-election in a contentious political climate, facing an opposition that has denounced disqualifications and other electoral obstacles.

Additionally, President Milei addressed the recent easing of diplomatic tensions between Argentina and Colombia. After previous episodes of verbal friction, including labels of “murderous terrorist” directed at Colombian President Gustavo Petro, Milei confirmed that the conflict has been “definitively closed.”

This diplomatic approach took place after a meeting on April 19 in Bogotá, where Luis Gilberto Murillo, foreign minister in charge of Colombia, received Diana Mondino, his Argentine counterpart.

The situation between Argentina and Colombia had escalated to the point of threats of expulsion of diplomats and calls for ambassadorial consultations, but recent diplomatic discussions appear to have restored mutual understanding.

These developments represent a significant moment in Argentina’s foreign relations with its neighbors in the region, marking a period of diplomatic adjustments and statements that could influence political dynamics at both the bilateral and regional levels.
