André Ramalho and Mauro Júnior are thrilled with confirmation of PSV’s Dutch title in historic campaign

The next few days will be full of celebrations for André Ramalho and Mauro Júnior, as well as their teammates and PSV fans spread across the city of Eindhoven and throughout the Netherlands. This is because the Dutch Championship title was confirmed this Sunday. The club won the Eredivisie for the 25th time in its history by beating Sparta Rotterdam 4-2.

“We knew that the title was very close, but official confirmation was missing. There is nothing better than her coming onto the field, with another great performance and in front of our fans, who, once again, had a beautiful party in the stands and now she will We deserve this achievement so much. The whole group is to be congratulated on this incredible and historic campaign that we are having. This is my sixth trophy here. This will have a special place in my memory. Now it’s time to celebrate and, in the final two games, look for possible records”, said André Ramalho.

“I have no words to describe the joy of winning the Eredivisie again, the main championship in the Netherlands, with PSV. It was worth everyone’s fight and dedication. It is no coincidence that we have already managed to make history, achieving several records with this incredible campaign, and that we can and will do everything to reach others in the games that we have left. But, first, we will celebrate a lot because we deserve it so much”, exalted Mauro Júnior.

With 87 points, PSV can no longer be caught by second-placed Feyenoord, who has 75 and will only play three more games.

Historic campaign

PSV’s campaign in the 2023/24 Dutch Championship will go down as one of the best in the history of the competition. Champion after six seasons, with two rounds to spare, they have achieved some historic records and can still confirm others in the two remaining matches.

With a 100% success rate in the first round, the team equaled the Eredivisie’s own record for the highest number of consecutive victories at the start of the competition: 17, achieved in the 1987/88 edition. Furthermore, the team has already achieved a record of 18 performances without being leaked, surpassing the 17 in the 2007/08 season.

More points

With 87 points and potentially reaching 93, PSV is one point away from reaching its own record. There were 88, in the 2014/15 season, when they accumulated 29 wins, one draw and four defeats.

The overall record, since the triumph now represents three points, belongs to Ajax, with 89 points, in the 1997/98 edition. In other words, one victory is enough for PSV to surpass their rival’s numbers.

In the 1971/72 season, Ajax, with 30 wins, three draws and only one defeat, won 63 points, which, under the three-point system, would be equivalent to a total of 93.

Highest goal difference

So far, in the current edition, PSV has accumulated 28 wins, three draws and only one defeat. Furthermore, it still boasts the best attack, with 107 goals, and the least leaky defense, with only 19 goals conceded.

With a balance of 88, he is close to surpassing the best mark, which belongs to arch-rivals Ajax, who, in the 1997/98 edition, finished with 90.

Highest number of victories in the same edition of the Dutch

If they win the remaining two games, PSV can also match Ajax, who, twice, managed to reach a record of 30 victories in the same edition of the Eredivisie. This happened a long time ago, in the 1971/72 and 1972/73 seasons.

André Ramalho – Leader of the squad and one of the Brazilians with the most games for PSV

André Ramalho is ending his third season at PSV. So far, he has played 126 games for the team, a fact that places him as the fourth Brazilian with the most appearances for the club, behind only Marcelo (136), Romário (148) and Gomes (181).

Starting 107 times, the defender has already scored six goals, provided five assists and has now won six titles. In addition to the Eredivisie, there were two Dutch Cups (2022 and 2023) and three National Super Cups (2021, 2022 and 2023).

Furthermore, they have a great success rate of 76.1%, with 89 wins, 21 draws and only 16 losses.

Mauro Júnior – Strong connection with PSV

Now two-time Eredivisie champion, Mauro Júnior has a strong connection with PSV. It all started when, still 14 years old, he went through a period of testing at the club. At the time, he still returned to Desportivo Brasil, but, as soon as he reached adulthood, he was hired by the European team.

Right on his debut, Mauro Júnior gained the spotlight by finding the net, becoming the second Brazilian to achieve this feat for PSV, after Ronaldo, in 1994. For two years, he played for both the main team and the B team and won the Dutch 2017/18, with a significant participation. There were 15 games, one goal and four assists.

After a year on loan at Heracles, he returned to Camponeses, in the 2020/21 season, and established himself with good performances and versatility, playing on both flanks and in midfield.

In the current season, the player experienced a period of reaffirmation, regaining his place in the team after overcoming physical problems, and was even elected to the Dutch national team last April. So far, he has played in 19 duels and scored one goal.

In total, Mauro Júnior has already played 123 games for PSV, a fact that places him, alongside Alex, as the fifth Brazilian athlete who has defended the most for Camponeses. Furthermore, he has scored eight goals, provided 14 assists and helped the club win six titles: two Eredivisie, two Super Cups and two Dutch Cups.
