The opposition presidential candidate Xochitl Galvez promised this Friday the creation of 5 million households in Mexico during its potential administration and return the public subsidy for its acquisition.
During the presentation of his construction project before the National Chamber of the Housing Development and Promotion Industry (Canadevi) and the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC), Gálvez announced that under his mandate the subsidies will be returned , but “in a studied, ethical and transparent manner.”
“My Government’s goal will be (the creation) of 5 million homes in the period 2024-2030. “This goal is not only to build new homes, but also includes improving, self-producing, financing and generating rental solutions,” Galvez said.
Furthermore, he advanced that there will be “more and better credits” and support to those who need it, including young people. “And we have to think about the subsidy to develop housing focused on income”he remarked.
The standard bearer of Fuerza y Corazón por México, a coalition of the National Action (PAN), Institutional Revolutionary (PRI) and the Democratic Revolution (PRD) parties, assured that given the increase in the costs of land in the cities, her option “it is growth in heights”
In addition, he questioned that if the Government gave the state-owned Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) 2 billion pesos (about US$ 117,647 million) in subsidies and tax forgiveness, what would have happened if half of that amount had been dedicated to housing.
“We could have given 4 million subsidies of 250,000 pesos (US$ 14,705) to each person,” he pointed.
“Where do they want to put the money? In refining (oil) where we lose money, or in the quality of life of a family? I would put it in people, in education, in housing, health, infrastructure or in drinking water”, he stressed.
In fact, he said that to resolve housing growth in Mexico City, the water supply must first be resolved. “in the colonies (neighborhoods).”
“The neighbors don’t want more housing because there is no water, but that has a solution, we are going to treat 100% of the water because it is crazy to take water out of the city and send it to other contaminated places.””, he noted.
Another strategy that Gálvez will promote in real estate will be the construction of condominiums without parking to promote public transportation in cities.
Mexico is one month away from the June 2 elections, which have been marked by the leadership in the polls of the official candidate, Claudia Sheinbaum, while Gálvez seeks to overcome a deficit of between 15 and 20 percentage points.
Mexico is approaching historic elections, in which more than 98 million citizens are called to vote to elect more than 20,700 positions, including the presidency, which for the first time would be occupied by a woman.
