“I appeal to those organizations of Polish farmers that continue to block freight traffic on sections of roads to individual border crossings with Ukraine, in particular in Medyka, Korczowa, Dorohusk and Hrebenny. Please hear me, [apele – red.] your native Polish government, if you still do not hear how Russian missiles are exploding in Ukraine, how they are mourning those who died as a result of Russian terrorist attacks on residential buildings, how the enemy is destroying critical infrastructure and the entire economy of war-torn Ukraine,” he said to Polish farmers Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Wasyl Zwarycz.
Ukraine appeals regarding the protests of Polish farmers. “Don’t believe myths”
In his opinion, “there is probably no more privileged economic class in Poland today than farmers.” He recalled that the Polish government offers farmers subsidies and direct payments, and also revised the provisions of the so-called green deal in the EU and convinced another EU country to apply certain restrictions on trade with Ukraine, which will come into force from June.
“Thanks to the actions of the Polish government, the European Union will soon actually stop importing agricultural products from Russia and Belarus. This will open up new opportunities for selling your Polish products in EU countries. Do not believe the myths that Ukrainian grain is still flooding the Polish market,” Vasyl Zvarycz wrote in his appeal. He noted that since April 2023, Ukraine has not sold wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower to Poland.
“There is a unilateral embargo on imports of grain from Ukraine, extended by the Polish government. Transit through Polish territory is also practically limited to a minimum, and will soon expire because there are alternative routes bypassing Poland,” he emphasized. “And do not believe the myths that the transit of Ukrainian grain through Poland causes problems for you. Transit goods do not stay in Poland,” he added.
Polish ports are charged only by 60%. and through your ports you have every opportunity to export grain. Polish services have strengthened control over the quality of products from Ukraine. Although we have many questions why, among a large number of non-EU goods, such a scrupulous approach is applied only to Ukrainian goods, we do not protest because we understand how committed the Polish government is to protect your interests
– said the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland.
Ambassador of Ukraine: Blocking the border is groundless and harmful
Wasyl Zwarycz assessed that further blocking of the border with Ukraine “is not only groundless, but also harmful to the Polish economy.” The ambassador appealed directly to Polish farmers to end the blockade of the border with Ukraine.
Return to your families and your professional activities, which we in Ukraine have always held in special respect. We have a common European future ahead of us. Together, we must harness the potential of cooperation and partnership for the benefit of our present and future generations. Help Ukraine survive and defend itself and you against the Russian aggressor. Our victory is a guarantee that a dirty Russian boot will never enter your house, and in Poland you will never hear the sounds of explosions of Russian rockets and cries for those who died in the war.
– wrote Wasyl Zwarycz.
Farmers’ protest. Donald Tusk: I am counting on reflection and withdrawal
Prime Minister Donald Tusk also appealed to protesting farmers to stop blocking the Ukrainian border. On Thursday, after the European Council summit in Brussels, the head of government spoke about the extremely difficult situation Ukraine finds itself in after the latest series of Russian bombings. According to Tusk, the coming time may be decisive for the fate of this war.
– I want to appeal to everyone in Poland, without exception, not to do anything that may harm Ukraine – said the Prime Minister yesterday. – We will have to make decisions that will protect the Polish border and border crossings – he added. Donald Tusk explained that the Polish authorities cannot allow the crossings to be blocked – regardless of the justification for the protests.
The Prime Minister reminded that, according to the latest government decision, border crossings have the status of critical infrastructure. He noted that the government is ready to provide further forms of assistance to those who lost part of their profits through no fault of their own. – I am counting on reflection and abandonment of this form of protest – he emphasized. Donald Tusk also announced that state services will try to unblock border crossings, but in his opinion the use of direct coercive measures will not be necessary here.
