The Israeli authorities maintain almost complete silence after the alleged air attack on the Iranian town of Isfahan, very close to Iran’s largest nuclear power plant, Natanz.
The only one who has spoken out has been the Israeli Minister of National Security, the far-right and settler Itamar Ben Gvir, who has published a single word on social networks: “Scarecrow!”, which in Hebrew slang means “weak”.
His message referred to a previous post in which he called for the Israeli response to Iran’s attack with more than 300 drones and missiles last Saturday not to be a “scarecrow”.
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid referred to Ben Gvir’s message as “unforgivable“, and said on the social networkmocking and shaming Israel from Tehran to Washington”.
Normality in Iran
Meanwhile, Iran is experiencing a day of apparent normality after last night’s attack, which caused no damage in the central province of Isfahan.
After an initial alarm that led to the closure of four airports that later resumed operations, the situation has returned to normal and life goes on like any other Friday, a holiday in Iran.
The Iranian Army has hinted that it does not plan to respond to Israel’s new attack, while state media strives to underline the apparent tranquility by broadcasting festive and tourist images.
According to the Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post, which cites anonymous sources, the offensive sought to send a signal that Israel does not want a regional war, but that it still has the capacity to attack Iranian nuclear facilities, if it so chooses.
More than 34,000 dead in Gaza
At the same time, the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip continues, and the deaths in the Palestinian enclave have already exceeded 34,000 since the war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas began on October 7.
According to the latest data from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry, 42 people were killed and 63 injured in Israeli attacks in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 34,012 and injuries to 76,833.
The Israeli Army also assured that in the last 24 hours it has killed two alleged combatants in an air attack in the center of the Strip, while military fighter jets “They attacked and destroyed approximately 25 targets” among those who cited “military installations, observation posts, launch sites and other military infrastructure”.
He also said they hit the site of a rocket launch from Gaza, in the Beit Lahia area, which was apparently aimed at the Israeli city of Ashkelon.
According to a military statement, the projectile landed in a depopulated area and artillery fired at the launch site, while fighter jets attacked a weapons warehouse in the area.
The Israeli Army announced yesterday that it had expanded its “operational control” on the so-called Nari corridor, a road that divides the northern part of the Gaza Strip from the southern part, after three months of fighting.
Israeli troops also use it to launch attacks and raids.
Additionally, in the occupied West Bank, one person was killed and several injured, including a Palestinian Red Crescent paramedic, in a military raid on the Nur Shams refugee camp.
The occupied West Bank is experiencing its greatest spiral of violence since the Second Intifada (2000-05), and so far in 2024 at least 138 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire, most of them suspected militants or attackers, but also civilians, including about one thirty of them minors, according to EFE’s count.
The Israeli Army intensified its already frequent incursions into the occupied West Bank after the Hamas attack on October 7 and, since then, some 464 Palestinians have died in violent incidents with Israel, mainly with troops but also with settlers.
