The Spanish multinational Repsol completed the construction of its largest photovoltaic plant to date, Frye Solar, in the United States, of 637 megawatts (MW), of which 570 MW are already in operation, the company reported this Thursday.
The plant is in the county of Swisherin the state of Texasnear the city of Kress, and has almost a million solar panels.
Repsolwhich has a good part of its business in America, signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for 89% of the project’s production.
The company has 2,091 MW of renewable power installed and under development in Texas, including Frye (637 MW), Outpost (629 MW) and Pinnington (825 MW).
In addition, it already generates electricity at its solar plants in New Mexico, Jicarilla 1 and 2, which have a total installed capacity of 125 MW and 20 MW of battery storage.
In 2021, Repsol entered the renewable market in the United States by purchasing 40% of the American company Hecate Energy and in 2023 it acquired the 20,000 MW project portfolio that the renewable promoter had ConnectGenwhich includes onshore wind, solar and energy storage projects.
The multinational, dedicated to energy and petrochemicals, is present, in addition to the United States, in countries such as Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.
