The Strasbourg Court ruled this Tuesday, April 9, in favor of one of the three claims raised for insufficient action of States to limit the climate change and has also pointed out that Switzerland would have violated human rights of a group of elderly women.
Thus, Síofra O’Leary, president of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has pointed out that Switzerland had violated the rights of these women, gathered in the Verein KlimaSeniorinnen association because “critical gaps” have been found in Swiss policies against climate change.
The ECHR, however, declared inadmissible what was the most high-profile lawsuit, presented by six young Portuguese against Portugal and against 31 other European countries, first because they did not make any appeal to the Justice of their country before arriving in Strasbourg, which is a basic rule, and because they cannot vaguely pretend to be victims of the inaction of other States.
