The room of Buckingham Palacein London, where the British royal family meets before their appearances on the famous balcony of the residence will open to the public for the first time, local media reported this Wednesday.
Visitors, who have been able to see other parts of the palace for years, will now be able to extend their tour by taking guided tours of this room, located in the east wing.
The palace balcony is known worldwide for marking important historical moments in the United Kingdom, such as the departure of King Charles III when he was crowned last year or his birthday to greet the crowds gathered there.
However, the public will not be able to access the balcony, which was also used on countless occasions by the late Queen Elizabeth II to greet people during her seventy-year reign.
The east wing of the palace was built between 1847 and 1849 to house the growing family of Queen Victoria (1819-1901). This part of the residence will be open to the public from July 15 to August 31, after more than several years of renovations.
The tour of the east wing will be available only as part of a visit to the palace’s State Rooms, which costs £75 (€87) for adults.
Highlights of the room are a recently restored crystal pendant lamp and two 18th-century Chinese imperial silk tapestries, presented to Queen Victoria by Guangxu, Emperor of China, on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee in 1897.
