They create a society of Hispanicists in Georgia to popularize Spanish

A group of Spanish experts presented this Saturday in Tbilisi (Georgia) a society of Hispanists with the aim of popularizing the Spanish language in this Caucasian republic.

”Georgia continues the tradition of many countries and presents the Society of Hispanists to popularize the Spanish language and develop cultural ties with Spanish-speaking countries around the world,” its president, Keteván Juskivadze, told EFE.

According to Juskivadze, initially “at least 50 members” are expected to join the society, including Spanish language teachers, as well as students from different universities.

The woman, who has been teaching Spanish for almost a quarter of a century at the country’s main higher education institution, the Tbilisi State University, assured that Cervantes’ language “is increasingly popular in Georgia.”

Juskivadze, who is also a translator, stated that Spanish is taught “in almost twenty private schools in Georgia and some universities.”

The Society of Hispanists will work to include the teaching of Spanish also in the public secondary school program.

“For this we hope to establish close cooperation with the Georgian Ministry of Education,” he said.

The society, founded with the support of the official representation of Spain in Georgia, plans to invite Spanish teachers for talks and symposiums and in 2025 it will participate for the first time in the congress of the International Association of Hispanists, which will be held in Chile.
