A team of prosecutors and police has registered the home of the president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, as part of a preliminary investigation for an alleged crime of illicit enrichment. After staying for more than five hours in the house, the team of prosecutors and police has traveled to the Government Palace of Lima to continue with the proceedings.
According to the radio station ‘RPP’, the raid was approved by Supreme Judge Juan Carlos Checkley after a request presented by the Attorney General, Juan Carlos Villena. Around midnight, the agents broke the lock of the main door, when they were not attended to after knocking repeatedly, according to images collected by local media, which indicate that Boluarte was not at homewhere only one of his children was, although later one of his lawyers arrived.
The entry into Boluarte’s home and the Government Palace is part of a preliminary investigation opened on March 18 against the president by the alleged commission of the crime of illicit enrichment. The prosecutors carried out the operation for the purposes of search and seizure of the luxury watches that Boluarte has used in different public activities and supposedly did not declare as part of his assets.
While the street where the president’s home is located was surrounded by a large police contingent, around 01:30 on Saturday (local time) the vehicles of the Prime Minister, Gustavo Adrianzén, and the head of Foreign Relations, Javier Gonzalez -Olaechea, arrived at the Government Palace, in addition to the Minister of Development and Social Inclusion, Julio Demartini.
Adrianzén later declared to the radio station ‘RPP’ that he is “outraged” by the raid and considered that there has been “an intolerable violation of the dignity of the Presidency of the Republic and the nation that she represents.” The prime minister added that “it is not possible” that they “have to witness absolutely disproportionate and when not unconstitutional actions,” since the ruler is protected by the immunity granted by her position. .
In addition, he assured that Boluarte “has at all times presented his collaboration to the Public Ministry” and is currently in the residence of the Government Palace.
Last Wednesday, however, The Prosecutor’s Office reported that the visits were frustrated to the ruler both at her home and at the Government Palace, while the Presidency assured that representatives of the Public Ministry were assisted by staff from Boluarte’s office, who received a notification for the president.
The supreme prosecutor, Hernán Mendoz, declared before the Congressional Oversight Commission that The president “had frustrated” the investigations by not attending the summonses on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Boluarte indicated last week that she was committed to going to the Prosecutor’s Office to respond to this investigation and she said that she does not have any financial irregularities.
