Christopher Nolan, director of ‘Oppenheimer’, will be decorated by King Charles III

Acclaimed British-American filmmaker Christopher Nolanrecognized for his masterpiece ‘Oppenheimer‘, along with his wife Emma Thomas, producer of the film, will be honored with the titles of Knight and Dame of the British Empire by the King Charles IIIthe British Government announced this Friday.

The Nolan-directed film about the scientist behind the creation of the atomic bomb received praise at both the British BAFTAs and the American Oscars, cementing his position as one of the industry’s most influential filmmakers.

The recognition also extends to prominent figures in other fields. Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, and Demis Hassabis, co-founder of DeepMind, are among the names included in the list of honorees for their contributions in their respective fieldsespecially in the field of artificial intelligence.

He also decided to honor Mohamed Mansour, donor and treasurer of the Conservative Party, which has generated criticism from the Labor opposition. Mansour will be knighted for his services to politics and charity, after donating a sizeable sum to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s party last year.

The release of the list of honorees during Easter has generated controversy, with the Labor opposition questioning the timing chosen to do so, arguing that these announcements are traditionally made at New Year’s or on the monarch’s official birthday in June.

The crown, for its part, explained that the urgency of appointing new members to the king’s Privy Council justified the disclosure at this time, including the addition of the newly elected Chief Minister of Wales, Vaughan Gething.
