Lufthansa and its workers reach salary agreements to avoid strikes

The address of Lufthansa and its ground staff on Thursday announced an agreement to increase salaries by about 12.5% ​​after recent strikes disrupted the German airline’s operations.

“The tariff agreement includes salary increases of around 12.5% ​​in two stages,” the first of 7% starting this year, and then the second, of more than 5% on average, Lufthansa explained in a statement.

“We fought hard to achieve this commitment and now we can be very satisfied,” said Martin Reschinsky, union negotiator.

“We have achieved real salary increases and we will also compensate for the decline in recent years,” he added in reference to the effect of inflation that has broken records in Germany.

The social conflict has cost Lufthansa about 100 million euros (about $108 million) since the beginning of the year, the group said in March.
