USA: White House sets rules for government use of AI

The White House announced this Thursday “concrete safeguards” for the employment of artificial intelligence by government agencies USAwhich they hope will serve as a model for “global action” in this matter.

“When government agencies use artificial intelligence tools, we will require them now to verify that those tools do not endanger the rights and security of the American people,” Vice President Kamala Harris said while briefing reporters on the new rules set by the Office of Management and Budget.

He gave as an example that if the Veterans Administration wants to use AI in its hospitals to assist in medical diagnoses, it would first have to demonstrate that the results are not biased based on race and gender and are not discriminatory.

Harris said federal agencies will also need to publish lists of the artificial intelligence systems they use and specify how risks are managed.

The government also ordered all federal agencies to designate a “AI director” with the expertise needed to ensure the technology is used responsibly, Harris noted.

“The president (Joe) Biden and I intend for these internal policies to serve as a model for global action.”said.
