The Danish multinational Maersk confirmed this Monday that it had temporarily rented the container ship ‘Dali’ and that it was transporting the company’s cargo, when it collided with a bridge in the city of Baltimore.
“We can confirm that the container ship ‘Dali’, operated by charter shipping company Synergy Group, is time chartered by Maersk and is carrying cargo for Maersk customers“, the company noted in a statement.
The shipping conglomerate further confirmed that there were no Maersk crew or personnel on board the ship.
“We are closely monitoring the investigations carried out by the authorities and Synergy, and will do everything possible to keep our customers informed.”says the text.

In London, the company fell 4.61% on the stock market as a result of what happened.
The Singapore company Synergy Group, which operates the ship, confirmed that none of the ship’s 22 crew members were injured and assured that it is collaborating with the authorities to determine the causes of the incident.
The accident took place around 01:30 local time (05:30 GMT), when the freighter ‘Dali’ collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in the city of Baltimore, one of the busiest bridges in the state of Maryland, and caused its collapse.
At 08:30 local time (12:30 GMT), a helicopter and three coast guard boats searched the Patapsco River for at least seven officially confirmed missing persons.
Two people were rescued by emergency services and the number of victims may be more than twenty, since there were maintenance teams on the bridge at the time of its collapse.
