The Russian Justice has decreed this Sunday preventive detention for two months for four of those suspected of perpetrating the attack in a Russian concert hall Crocus City Hall, which left at least 137 dead on Friday. The four men have been indicted on terrorism charges and could face life in prison, the TASS agency has reported. The suspects appeared in court with disfigured faces, injuries and some even in a wheelchair.
Moscow’s Basmanny District Court has formally charged Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, 32 years old; Saidakrami Rachabalizoda, 30; Mukhammadsobir Faizov, 19, and Shamsidin Fariduni, 25of committing a terrorist attack.
Three of the four, Mirzoyev, Rachabalizoda and Shamsidin Fariduni, have acknowledged be guilty of all charges. The fourth, Faizov, has been brought to court wheelchair bound directly from a hospital. During the hearing he has been sitting with his eyes closed, and given his situation, he was treated by doctors while he was in court with hospital clothes
The rest of the accused had disfigured faces and injuries that could be seen all over their bodies. When they were arrested, they were published brutal videos and images of interrogations of suspects. For this reason, when they were at the hearing, one of the detainees was seen with a bandage where his right ear should be, another had a black eye and a torn plastic bag around his neck, and a fourth suspect with a swollen face seemed disoriented and struggling to keep his eyes open.
Friday’s attack was the deadliest on Russian territory since the Beslan school siege in 2004, when Islamist militants took more than 1,000 people hostage and killed more than 300 people. In this case, Russia has sent harsh messages and threats and has even discussed reintroducing the death penalty.
The suspects
Mirzoev is a citizen of Tajikistan and has three minor children. The defendant, who fully admitted his guilt, lived in the Moscow region with residence documents that expired three months ago. At once, the accused had no criminal record penalties, Russian media point out.
Rachabalizoda, 30, also admitted guilt. The accused is married, Has a son and does not have a criminal record. Faizov, 19, wore a white coat and was accompanied by two doctors as he was brought to court from a hospital, where he was admitted after being injured during his arrest. He is not married and stated that he previously worked as a hairdresser in the city of Ivanovo and was currently unemployed.
Finally, Shamsudin told the judge that he worked in a factory in the Moscow region and who has an eight month old son.
Numbers of injured and dead left by the attack
According to the latest data, last Friday’s attack, claimed by the jihadist group Islamic State, has left 137 dead. Meanwhile, the number of injured rose this Sunday from 154 to 180 people. According to Russian media, some survivors of the attack took more than a day to request medical help because they were in a state of ‘shock’.
In total, Russian security forces have detained eleven people linked to the attack, four of whom personally participated in the massacre, according to authorities.
