Anti-Chavism maintains María Corina Machado’s aspiration in the presidential elections

Come Venezuela (VV), the opposition party Maria Corina Machadoclarified this Friday that the candidacy of the former liberal deputy for the presidential elections on July 28 is not ruled out, after the majority opposition proposed the historian Corina Yoris as its candidate, given the disqualification that prevents the leader of that formation from competing. .

Through X, the party explained that anti-Chavismo will register Yoris as its “unitary representative” in the presidential elections “while the irritating disqualification is resolved” of Machado, which prevents him from competing in elections for public office until 2036.

In this sense, he pointed out that the “The opposition would have up to 10 days before the election to make the name substitution and move forward with María Corina as a candidate.”

Article 63 of the ‘Organic Law of Electoral Processes’ establishes that organizations “They may modify the nominations they present and, consequently, replace candidates up to ten days before the electoral event takes place.”

Then, the National Electoral Council (CNE) “will take measures to inform voters” about “the modification or replacement carried out”according to the article.

If “the time in which the modification or substitution is carried out is insufficient to make the change in the electoral instrument, the votes cast therein will be credited to the substitute candidate”, he adds.

Machado announced this Friday the decision to nominate Yoris as the candidate of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), the main opposition coalition, an action that is part of an agreed mechanism to make “in the face of this obstacle”in reference to his disqualification, ratified in January by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).

The winner of last October’s primaries assured that, in the meantime, she will continue “touring all over Venezuela” to go “strength and hope to every corner of the country”at the same time that he will continue his fight against the disqualification, which he described as “an irrational, totally unconstitutional and cowardly act.”

The CNE opened the registration period for presidential candidates on Thursday, who will be able to make their candidacy official until next Monday, according to the electoral schedule.

The ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) chose the current President of the Government, Nicolás Maduro, as its candidate, who accepted the proposal of Chavista militants and sympathizers, and will compete in the elections in search of his third consecutive term.
