Germany will change Adidas for Nike from 2027 after 70 years

German football and adidas They get divorced. The German team will no longer be dressed by Adidas, after 70 years, and will have Nike as a new sponsor from 2027, with an initial 7-year contract.

We are pleased with the cooperation with Nike and the trust they have placed in us. The alliance will allow us to take on key tasks in the coming decades regarding the development of football in Germany”said the president of the German Football Federation (DFB), Bernd Neuendorfit’s a statement.

It is also clear that until 2026 we will continue to work with all energy for common success with our current and long-time partner Adidas, to whom German football has so much to thank for what it has done in more than 70 years.”he added.

According to DFBthe decision was the product of an open and transparent process in which Nike made the best economic offer.

The DFB He had renewed his contract with Adidas in 2019. In their long cooperation, Germany won four world championships and three European Championships with the men’s team and two World Cups and eight European Championships with the women’s team.

Agreement breaks the historic football bond

The new agreement will extend to 2034 and ends Germany’s historic link with Adidas, which dates back some 70 years.

Wearing Adidas clothing, Germany became world champion on four occasions and European champion on three other occasions. For its part, the women’s team won two World Cups and eight European Championships.

Adi Dassler, the founder of Adidas, was on the bench alongside coach Sepp Herberger when West Germany won its first World Cup in 1954, wearing his company’s boots.

Dassler did not invent heeled ankle boots, as many believe. They were invented years ago by the German shoe manufacturer Alexander Salot, who registered his invention with the German patent office on August 30, 1949.

But without a doubt they were key to Germany defeating Hungary in the 1954 World Cup final.

Dassler’s company has been the supplier of the German team’s equipment since then, and just last week it had presented the new jerseys for the European Championship that will be held this year in Germany.
