Nine people were arrested on the night of Sunday to Monday in the city of La Courneuve for the attack on the police station of this city on the outskirts of Paris that degenerated into riots after the death last Wednesday of a young man who was fleeing from law enforcement after skipping a checkpoint.

The Paris Police Prefect, Laurent Núñez, explained this Monday that in the altercations against the police station “about fifty individuals” participated and attacked by shooting fireworks. Núñez, in statements to the TF1 channel, stated that after the altercations, calm was restored “a little before 11 p.m.” thanks to the arrival of police reinforcements from other cities in the department of Seine Saint Denis, in which he is located. In some videos posted on social networks you can see dozens of hooded people dressed in black launching fireworks at the police station and burning containers.

These altercations occur in a scene of tension in that part of the Seine Saint Denis department, northeast of Paris, after On Wednesday an 18-year-old man died and another was injured in an accident when they fled on a motorcycle after skipping a police checkpoint.

According to the version of the Prosecutor’s Office, the two young people had committed several violations of the traffic code during their escape when his motorcycle collided head-on with a police car who participated in the persecution device. The Prosecutor’s Office explained, based on the video surveillance images, that the police car had to leave its traffic lane because another vehicle did not respect the priority, and then it came face to face with the motorcycle.

The family of the deceased young man, however, questions this version and announced that they were going to file a complaint for voluntary violence resulting in death, without the intention of causing it.
