The former governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley will announce this Wednesday its withdrawal from the republican primaries for the presidential elections, after the clear victory of his rival, Donald Trump, in the Super Tuesdaywhich put hundreds of delegates in fifteen states at stake.
Haley, Trump’s former ambassador to the UN, had reluctant to give in to the tycoon in recent weeks and even promised that he would not retire after ‘Super Tuesday’, but the failure on this key day has ended up tipping the balance and he plans to appear in a matter of hours, according to the main American media, including ‘ The New York Times’ or CNN.
Haley only took victory in Vermont, insufficient to stop a Trump who is now unstoppable facing the final stretch of the primary campaign and will be formally proclaimed candidate at the Republican convention in July. In November, the former president will fight again at the polls with the current occupant of the White House, Joe Biden.
The now-retired candidate has at least achieved the milestone of being the first woman to prevail in a Republican Party primary and gain prominence on the national political scene of the United States, something that can work in their favor in future electoral races. Given the open disqualifications exchanged with Trump, it seems difficult for him to be part of his hypothetical cabinet.
