The American pharmaceutical company Moderna has assured today that a booster dose of its vaccine against COVID-19 increases protection against the omicron variant.
The multinational has released today the preliminary data of the studies they have carried out on the booster doses and the strategy they plan to implement to combat the new variant of SARS-CoV-2 responsible for the pandemic.
Moderna has underlined, in a press release released today, that it is a variant of the virus that is “worrisome for everyone” and “highly transmissible”, but has stressed that the booster dose of its vaccine increases the levels of neutralizing antibodies and in which you are already working on a specific reinforcement against that variant.
The company has assured that, given the complexity of obtaining a new vaccine, it will focus its efforts “in the short term” on addressing the new variant of the virus with the reinforcement of its original vaccine.
Looking ahead and given the speed of transmission of the new variant, the company has stressed that it continues to work on a specific vaccine against omicron and that it hopes to carry out clinical trials at the beginning of next year.
