The depths of the ocean, the ends of the Earth or even outer space. These are the new objectives of the world’s great powers to take advantage of their untapped resources… and it could also be the place where new wars occur in this attempt to take them over.

These spaces are considered “global common spaces” and they have no property, as Ana Raya, analyst of ‘The World Order’ explains: “The global common spaces. They are the places on Earth that They have a high strategic value for states and therefore do not belong to any of them, but to their group.

These places are untapped and estimates are that They are very rich in very necessary materials for the great powers in the face of shortages in the rest of the planet: “In Antarctica it is estimated that there are 500,000 million tons of oil and on the seabed, there are large reserves of critical mineralswhich are fundamental for the energy transition”.

And the ambition of the great powers for these sites could lead, for example, to destroying the poles in search of oil, a deployment of anti-satellite capabilities (Russia could be developing an anti-satellite nuclear weapon) and huge machines to take over the marine world.

The latter is already done by China, as Ana Raya explains: “China has been working on the ‘Great Underwater Wall’ project since 2015 in the South China Sea, which not only has many submarine cables that are responsible for 95% of the global Internet but also great territorial aspirations.

These aspirations could also lead to tensions between great powers at a time when wars are increasing around the world.
