Russian figure skater Valieva said she did not take doping consciously
Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva made a statement about doping on NHK TV.
The athlete stated that she did not knowingly take doping. She emphasized that she took courses from the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) and tried to follow the rules as much as possible. “I went to the Olympic Games as a sports festival, to a place for which you have worked for so long, dreamed about it for so long. I came and, unfortunately, received different emotions and a different attitude,” Valieva said.
On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended Valieva for four years. The period of suspension starts on December 25, 2021. According to the court, Valieva could not prove that she took doping unintentionally.
The doping scandal surrounding Valieva unfolded at the 2022 Olympic Games. Traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in the skater’s sample from December 2021.
