Elon Musk denounces OpenAI for becoming a lucrative company

The billionaire Elon Musk filed a lawsuit against the technology company OpenAI and its co-founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, claiming that the company is putting profit first and failing to fulfill its original mission. Initially Musk was founder of OpenAI, developer of ChatGPTbut after his departure he has disagreed with the direction the company has taken.

According to the San Francisco court, consulted by AFP, the documents presented by Musk accuse the company of failing to comply with the agreement of being a “non-profit organization that works for the good of humanity”.

The company was founded in 2015 by Musk and Altam in order to work on artificial intelligence programs of “Open Source”, that is, accessible, editable, usable and redistributable to everyone. However, after Musk’s departure in 2018, the company has been changing course.

OpenAI teamed up with Microsoftwhich promised US$13 billion in investments, and then did not make public the code of its latest GPT 4 language model, with which Musk’s lawyers allege that they would be “breaking the original contract.”

Unlike the initial agreement, the defendants chose to use GPT 4 not for the good of humanity, but as an exclusive technology to maximize the profits of the world’s largest company.“, they noted.

Altman stated that he reoriented OpenAI towards a lucrative career, for which he was fired by a part of the board in November. However, with Microsoft’s support he was reinstated at the company five days later.

Now, billionaire Musk demands that GPT 4 be excluded from the license granted by OpenAI to Microsoft.
