Peruvian designer wins prize for young talent in Madrid

The designer of Peruvian origin Michelle Lima, creative of MAL Studio Custom Project, a brand based in the Spanish city of Bilbao, won the sixth edition of the Allianz EGO Confidence in Fashion contest on Sunday, during the Madrid fashion week.

The prize, with a financial award of 6,000 euros, will be used to develop a new collection with which she will parade in the next edition of the catwalk dedicated to emerging talent next September.

The jury highlighted the brand’s identity and narrative, and the artist’s own involvement in them.

He also pointed out the evolution of his proposal, “his commitment to craftsmanship and the perfect balance that he creates between the strength of his message, and the lightness in the resolution of patterns and shapes of his garments,” he highlighted in a press release.

Michelle Lima relies on experiences and anecdotes from a nostalgic, personal and metaphorical vision of her memories.

Their creations are characterized by “a timeless style with great conceptual weight of genderless garments.” To each project he transfers a mix of textures, shapes and volumes, with technical fabrics and natural fibers.

To do this, she rescues vintage fabrics and waste material from other fashion companies, as well as pieces from past projects, which she redesigns.

”Thanks to the award I will be able to continue developing my brand and I will have more freedom to continue creating. I founded my brand in Bilbao in 2014 and entrepreneurship is hard work. This recognition will give us wings to continue dreaming,” commented Michelle Lima.

The award includes business advice from UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology, to promote your brand and business project.

Lima was one of the 15 emerging creators who showed their work in the Allianz EGO Showroom, located in the Cibelespacio Creation Space during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid.
