North Korea appears open to improving ties with Japan

The sister of the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un He said this Thursday that the regime is open to improving its relationship with Japanand said that a visit by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to Pyongyang is possible.

“I think there would be no reason not to evaluate Japan’s recent speech as positive, if it were motivated by its true intention to free itself from the shackles of the past and promote relations between North Korea and Japan.”n,” said Kim Yo-jong, in statements published this Thursday by the North Korean state broadcaster KCNA.

Since denuclearization negotiations with the United States failed in 2019, North Korea decided to approve a weapons modernization plan and, in addition to rejecting the restart of dialogue, has sought greater rapprochement with Beijing and Moscow.
