Chileans in Ecuador vote at tables in Quito and Guayaquil

Around 1,000 Chileans can participate in the ballot for their country from Ecuador.

Yesterday afternoon there was already news that in the South Pacific the Chileans who live in that area began to vote in the presidential elections. However, in most countries, including Ecuador, the vote is taken this morning.

According to the diplomatic delegation in Ecuador, the electoral day is the same as in your country, from 08:00 to 18:00, after which the scrutiny begins to send the results digitally, and a day later the physical votes as endorsement by diplomatic bag.

In Guayaquil, 500 people were authorized to vote at two tables, located in the Casa Grande University facilities —on the side that is opposite door 6 of the Albán Borja shopping center—, taking into account that this consulate covers the Chileans —by birth or nationalization and who registered their change of electoral domicile— not only from Guayas, but also from Azuay, Loja and other southern provinces of Ecuador.

The other voting point is in Quito, at the UTE University —on the campus located at Bourgeois N34-102 and Rumipamba streets—, where the number of people authorized to vote was also around 500.

To go to vote they must carry their Chilean identity card or passport (it may be expired from October 1, 2019), a blue ink pen, respect biosanitary measures and the use of a mask.

Since 2017, Chileans residing in other countries can exercise their suffrage in presidential elections, presidential primaries and national plebiscites.

This time they will have to help decide who will be the new president of Chile: the ultra-conservative Jose Antonio Kastfrom the Republican Party, who has shown concern about immigration and crime; or the leftist Gabriel Boric, from the I Approve Dignity coalition. (I)
