Nicolás Maduro calls Javier Milei “crazy” and accuses him of stealing a plane from Venezuela

The president of Venezuela, Nicolas Madurocalled this Thursday “crazy” and “bandit” to his Argentine counterpartJavier Mileiand accused him of stealing the country’s cargo plane that was held in Buenos Aires since June 2022 and which was transferred to the United States on Monday.

“Milei’s bandit stole the plane from Venezuela. Javier Milei, the hero of the extreme right and of surnames”said the Chavista leader during a televised event in reference to the aircraft belonging to the state company Conviasa.

“That’s the hero now, Milei, the crazy Milei, he acts crazy or he’s crazy, or both at the same time, ah but he stole a plane from Venezuela”he insisted.

The plane arrived in Argentina on June 6, 2022 with a crew of five Iranians and fourteen Venezuelans who were initially detained by the Argentine Justice and released due to lack of evidence in the crime of financing terrorist activities.

The Argentine Justice had ordered the confiscation of the plane at the beginning of this year in response to a request made in October 2022 by the Court of the District of Columbia of the United States, which asked the Argentine authorities to confiscate the aircraft, which is the subject of investigation. for possible links to international terrorism.

In a statement, the Government of Venezuela warned on Monday that it will give a “strong response” before the consummation of a “blatant theft”after “the conspiracy” between Washington and Buenos Aires, which “in a cunning manner they have violated all the rules that regulate civil aeronautics.”

Milei’s rise to power meant an ideological fracture in relations between Caracas and Buenos Aires, which experienced tensions during the Presidency of Mauricio Macri (2015-2019), and were reduced during Alberto Fernández’s mandate, which ended in December.

On several occasions, Maduro has denounced that Milei wants to turn Argentina into a “colony of foreign capital” and “subject the people to neoliberal packages.”
