Likewise, this report indicated that the average income received by Peruvians in all regions of the country is S/1,674.40. This figure is obtained from the analysis of 2023 income, which was 9.9% higher (S/150.40) than what was reported in 2022 (S/1,524.00). In the urban area it was S/1,833.20, an amount higher by S/953.20 than that recorded in the rural area, which was S/880.00.

Regarding the division by age, the INEI indicated that the average monthly income of people between 25 and 44 years old is S/1,814.50 (increased by 10.5% compared to 2022). For the group of people 45 years of age or older, the amount stood at S/1,662.90 (10% more). Finally, for Peruvians between 14 and 24 years old, their monthly income is S/1,133.50 (3.3% more).

On the other hand, the institution also took into account segregation by sex. The average income of the female sex was positioned at S/1,405.10, with an increase of 12.7% (S/158.20), while for the male sex their income is S/1,873.50, an 8.5 % more than the year 2023 (S/146.90).

INEI: which sector had the best income in 2023?

According to the INEI report, the construction area is the one that earns the best, with S/2,029.20 per month. Then, it is followed by services (S/1,996.20), manufacturing (S/1,734 soles), commerce (S/1,483.60) and mining, fishing and agriculture, with (S/992).

In 2023, the country’s unemployment rate stood at 5.4%, 0.7% higher than the previous year (4.7%). According to the area of ​​residence, the unemployment rate in the urban area was 6.3%, 4.7% higher than that registered in the rural area (1.6%).

And finally, according to the level of education achieved, unemployment affected 7.2% and 6.1% of the population with university higher education and non-university higher education, respectively; while, in the population with primary education or a lower educational level and among those with secondary education, unemployment affected 2.6% and 5.5%, respectively.

INEI: what was the survey sample?

This report was prepared with the results of the Permanent National Employment Survey (EPEN), which is carried out every quarter due to the rapid social and economic transformations observed in recent years in the country, as well as the emergence of new work modalities. .

For the fourth quarter of 2023, the sample size was 33,992 private homes, distributed in 7,510 conglomerates and, at the city level, in 27,420 private homes, distributed in 6,295 conglomerates. This specialized survey allows the country to provide, for the first time, the behavior of labor market indicators on a quarterly basis at the level of 26 cities: Abancay, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Chachapoyas, Chiclayo, Chimbote, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huancayo, Huánuco , Huaraz, Ica, Iquitos, Metropolitan Lima and the Constitutional Province of Callao, Moquegua, Moyobamba, Cerro de Pasco, Piura, Pucallpa, Puerto Maldonado, Puno, Tacna, Tarapoto, Trujillo and Tumbes.
