Three US service members have been killed and 25 more wounded in an attack with suicide drone allegedly launched by pro-Iran militias and occurred the night of Saturday to Sunday in Jordan, near the border with Syria, as reported by the North American Armed Forces this Sunday.
“Three US service members have been killed and 25 wounded in a one-way unmanned aerial system attack that hit a base in northeastern Jordan, near the border with Syria,” the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.
The identities of the victims have not been made public “out of respect for the families” and in accordance with Department of Defense policy, according to the memo. Thus, they will wait up to 24 hours after having notified their relatives. For their part, military sources cited by the American television network ‘CNN’ have indicated that the attack occurred at the base called Tower 22.
The president of United States, Joe Bidenhas already expressed his condolences for the attack, which he blamed on “pro-Iran militias” operating in Syria and Iraq, according to a White House statement.
This is the first attack in which US soldiers die in the Middle East since the beginning of the current escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip. However, they are relatively common attacks on US bases in Syria and Iraq and since October 17, 158 incidents have been reported, none of them serious.
