China will “respond” to the needs of the elderly in the face of an aging population

He chinese government recognized today that it must “do more” to “meet the needs” of the population over 60 years of age and stated that it will “actively respond” to their concerns in the face of the rapid aging of society.

According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, there are in China about 280 million people over 60 years of age, which represents 19.8% of the total population.

Thus, Zhang Shixin, deputy secretary general of the National Development and Reform Commission, stated today at a press conference that the Government will try to develop an industry “to realize the people’s desire for a better life.”

“There are almost 300 million elderly people in our country. As China’s level of economic and social development continues to rise, the desire and demand of older people to improve their quality of life will also rise.he stressed, reported by the local press.

Zhang explained some of the measures he will take Beijing to “resolve the urgent problems of the elderly”, such as “expanding the offer of products for them, betting on potential sectors and strengthening financial support for these industries.”

Last week, the Executive highlighted the need to focus on innovation in products designed for the elderly, the development of new forms of intelligent care, the rehabilitation and assistance device industry, and the anti-aging industry.

For example, it is encouraged to develop healthy foods and special medical solutions that adapt to the way older people eat and chew, or to manufacture vehicles “that meet technical standards and facilitate barrier-free transportation for the elderly.”

Likewise, the State Council emphasizes “smart devices” for home care and promotes the use of robots to care for the elderly, to perform housework, and to prevent the elderly from getting lost.

The Chinese authorities also urge to strengthen the investigation and application of the technology genetics, regenerative medicine and lasers in the field of aging treatments.

The document also indicates that the supply of financial products for old age must be increased and pension and commercial insurance products for retirees must be diversified.

Around the year 2035, it is estimated that there will be more than 400 million old people of 60 in the Asian country, which will represent more than 30% of the Chinese population.

Authorities have warned that the aging of the population presents numerous challenges for the provision of public services and the sustainability of social security.

China experienced an official decrease of 850,000 inhabitants in 2022 and closed the year with 1,411.75 million, in contrast to the 1,412.6 million registered at the end of 2021.
