This week marks 15 years since an Airbus 320 plane landed in the Hudson River in New York, piloted by Captain Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger. A heroic landing by the captain who managed to save the life of the 155 people on board.

Minutes before impact, the flight 1549 of US Airways had left La Guardia Airport with 155 people on board. 20 seconds after taking off, a flock of Canadian geese hit one of her engines. The commander known as Sully He alerted of the emergency and asked for authorization to return from where he came from, but suddenly the second engine failed.

The plane was at the mercy of the wind and the pilot’s skill. In a matter of seconds, Sully made the decision: change course and make an emergency landing in the river that would give its name to the miracle. Already on the icy waters, the captain managed to bring the plane closer to two ferries so that the passengers evacuate quickly before of the heavy structure collapsing. “Captain here, prepare for impact,” was the last thing the passengers heard before the miracle.

A risky maneuver which, he claims, he was able to do thanks to his knowledge acquired in the US Air Force. “The most important piece of the security team is an experienced and well-prepared person,” declared the commander during the investigation of the incident in May 2010.

Then, Sully became into national hero. She inspired a movie which bears his name and changed the cockpit for the stage to talk about his experience. “I decided to set clear priorities“, he states in one of his presentations. Currently, he gives talks on self-control and security, also, from his already viral social networks.
