The charges against him were presented last December by special counsel David Weiss, who is examining the case after being appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in August and was nominated in 2017 by then-President Donald Trump.
According to the indictment, Biden’s son spent $1.4 million in federal taxes in drugs, companions, luxury hotels, luxury vehicles or clothing, among others. In total, the federal charges amount to a maximum sentence of 17 years in prison.
