The law firms that are defending Daniel Sancho, accused of murdering Edwin Arrieta in Thailand, have unexpectedly called a press conference open to all media for this Friday, January 12. The call is set for 12:30 p.m. and will take place in the office of Marcos García-Montes, in Madrid.

With this appointment, the first official press conference since they took on the case, they intend to denounce certain “irregularities” found during the investigation of the case, carried out by the Thai police.

The Spanish law firms want to provide this information once the investigation has been closed and the case is waiting to open oral proceedings. It is unknown what other information or progress in the investigation they can give, although it is known that what they want to prove is that it was not a murder, but an accidental death.

It is not the first time that law firms accuse the Police of irregularities, since they have already denounced the leak of a videoas well as the poor attention of public defenders.

Beyond the specific facts they present, Thailand changed its police chief after allegations of corruption by the person in charge of the Daniel Sancho case.

The trial against Daniel Sancho is scheduled to take place from April 9 to May 3 at the Samui court in southern Thailand.

The trial will take place for 15 days and will have at least 57 witnesses between all parties. Of them, the defense of the son of Rodolfo Sancho and Silvia Bronchalo will provide at least 27 witnesses, after all parties presented broader initial lists that were later reduced after negotiations between the defense and the prosecution.

Sancho has been in provisional prison since last August 7. Although in the first hours after learning of Arrieta’s death, it was said that he had recognized the facts, Sancho pleaded not guilty to premeditated murder during a court hearing on the island of Samui last November.

On the other hand, the Thai Prosecutor’s Office accuses Daniel Sancho of premeditated murder and requested the death penalty, which is legal in Thailand. The defense of Edwin Arrieta said he adhered to the request of the Prosecutor’s Office of Thailand and the wishes of the murdered doctor’s family.
