Oil company BP temporarily suspends the passage of its ships through the Red Sea

The oil company BP reported this Monday that it has decided to temporarily suspend the passage of its vessels through the Red Seaafter several ships were attacked in recent days off the coast of Yemen.

“The safety of our people and those who work on our behalf is BP’s priority”says a statement from the company sent this Monday.

“In light of the deteriorating shipping security situation in the Red Sea, BP has decided to temporarily suspend all transits through the Red Sea. “We will keep this preventive pause under continuous review, subject to circumstances as they evolve in the region,” he adds.

One of the most important routes

Other maritime companies such as MSC or Maersk have also announced the suspension of their ships for the Red Sea, one of the most important routes in the world for vessels transporting oil and consumer goods.

The Houthis have launched several volleys of missiles and drones against southern Israel in these last two months, and also against ships flying the Israeli flag or owned by Israeli companies in the Red Sea and the Strait of Bab al Mandeb.
