An Indian was arrested for the murder of a man who pretended to pass himself off as his own corpse to evade justice, police said Monday.
Sudesh Kumar, who had already been charged, but not yet tried, for the murder of his own daughter in 2018, was released on bail last year when authorities cleared overcrowded prisons during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The body of the victim, who was wearing Sudesh Kumar’s clothes and his identity card, fIt was found last month by the police in Ghaziabad, a suburb of New Delhi.
“The body was partially burned and his face was unrecognizable,” Police Commissioner Iraj Raja told AFP.
“We went to his house and asked his wife to identify the body,” said the agent. The woman quickly recognized her husband’s body.
“However, we were not convinced,” added the official, as his department had received the information that Sudesh Kumar was still alive.
On Friday, Kumar was arrested at the door of his home. Questioned by the police, the man confessed, and was accused, along with his wife, of murder, explained Raja.
Kumar contacted the bricklayer and invited him home with the excuse of doing construction work. He gave him spare clothes, then got him drunk, before beating him to death. (I)
