Mario Vargas Llosa and nine former presidents call to vote for Javier Milei

The Nobel Prize in Literature Mario Vargas Llosa and nine former presidents published a joint statement in which they demonstrated their support for the liberal candidate Javier Mileiwho next Sunday will compete for the presidency of Argentina with the current Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa.

In the text they considered that Massa “represents the continuity of a failed corporate economic model”.

“In the political dimension, Sergio Massa starkly proposes the confusion of State-Government-Party, using all the mechanisms, organizations and human and economic resources that should be at the service of citizens as a battering ram against the opposition, as a bargaining chip to make clientelism and as a beachhead for their militancy”they questioned

In that sense, they recalled that the current Minister of Economy keeps Argentina immersed in a “triple-digit inflation, record poverty over 40% and unemployment that is barely disguised by welfare and social plans.”.

Milei believes in the ideas of freedom

Regarding Milei, the signatories of the statement stressed that, despite their multiple differences with the economist, they highlighted that this “he believes in the ideas of freedom and has a very accurate diagnosis regarding the country’s economic problem”.

“We, the undersigned, consider that a new mandate from the Kirchnerist space would bury the fragile antibodies that Argentina still maintains against economic populism, authoritarianism and political corruption, and the corporatist pact.”reads the document.

In addition to Vargas Llosa, the text was signed by the former presidents Mariano Rajoy (Spain), Sebastian Piñera (Chili), Ivan Duque (Colombia), Felipe Calderon (Mexico), Mauricio Macri (Argentina), Jorge Quiroga (Bolivia), among others.
