Hundreds of Brazilians braved the intense heat and this Sunday they crowded the beaches of Rio de Janeirojust one day after the city registered a thermal sensation of 47.2 degrees Celsius.
The most touristic city in Brazil also suffered this Sunday with the rise in thermometers, a situation that its inhabitants try to mitigate with a swim in the iconic beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, mainly in the visited Pedra do Aproador.
The temperature this Sunday was close to that of Saturday – one of the hottest days of the year -, when the ambient thermometers marked 39.3 degrees Celsius at their highest point and a thermal sensation always above 40 degrees.
In February of this year, a temperature of 41.8 degrees and a thermal sensation of almost 50 degrees was recorded in Rio de Janeiro.
Due to the excessive heat, the state National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued an orange alert for Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, which means very dangerous heat for people these days.
