Eurostat has published new data on unemployment in European Union countries. As it turns out, Poland is almost at the very top of this classification – only the Czechs are ahead of us. However, not everyone has reasons to be satisfied.

Poland was among the countries with the lowest unemployment rate in the EU in September. It amounted to 2.8 percent. – according to data published by the European Statistical Office (Eurostat). In September this year – according to Eurostat – 477,000 people were unemployed. Poles. Data from the European office indicate that unemployment in Poland has remained at the same level for several months, and compared to September last year it decreased by 0.2 percentage points. In turn, according to the Polish Central Statistical Office, the registered unemployment rate was at the end of September this year. 5 percent Eurostat and GUS data are different due to different counting methodologies.

Poland is behind the Czech Republic, but ahead of Germany

Data from the European Statistical Office show that the lowest level of unemployment in September was recorded in the Czech Republic (2.7%). Right behind them, ex aequo with Poland, Malta takes second place. Both countries recorded unemployment of 2.8%. Germany was also on the podium (3%). The worst situation in the European Union in this respect is in Spain, where unemployment amounted to 12 percent in September. and in Greece – 10 percent. These are the only countries in the Community with double-digit unemployment.

According to Eurostat, the unemployment rate in the euro zone in September was 6.5%. – this is a slight increase compared to the previous month (6.4%), but a decrease compared to September last year (6.7%). As for unemployment throughout the European Union, it amounted to 6% in September 2023. – which translates into 13 million EU citizens without work (11 million in the euro zone alone).

Youth unemployment

In September 2023, 2.7 million young people (i.e. under 25 years of age) were unemployed in the European Union, of which 2.2 million were in the euro area. The September youth unemployment rate across the EU was 14.2%, compared to 14.1%. in August 2023, and in the euro zone it is 14%. in September, compared to 13.9 percent in the previous month. Compared to August 2023, youth unemployment increased by 38,000. in the EU and by 21 thousand in the euro zone. And compared to September 2022, youth unemployment decreased by 133,000. in the EU and by 119 thousand in the euro zone.
