A federal judge on Sunday reinstated the gag order she imposed on donald trump in the case of Washington that accuses him of trying to overturn his 2020 electoral defeat, denying his request for a suspension pending appeal.
The order prohibits Trump from criticizing the special counsel handling his case or witnesses who might be called to testify about his efforts to overturn his election loss.
District Judge Tanya Chutkan imposed the order at the request of the Justice Department. She temporarily lifted it on October 20 after Trump’s lawyers appealed. And she reversed that decision Sunday night, according to the court record.
A copy of the judge’s order reinstating the gag was not immediately available.
Trump has called special counsel Jack Smith in the past “deranged lunatic” and “bully”Among other insults, the former president faces four criminal cases and has made derogatory comments about the prosecutors in each of them, as well as against the New York state attorney general who filed civil fraud charges against him.
Trump has pleaded not guilty to charges that he conspired to illegally interfere with the vote count and block Congress’ certification of his 2020 loss to Democrat Joe Biden.
