This was the second edition of the contest that took place in the state of Morelia on October 21, 2023 and focused on choosing the participant with the best Catrina makeup.

Catrinas are artistic depictions of elegant skeleton women dressed in traditional Mexican costumes, which have become an internationally recognized symbol of the Day of the Dead celebration. These figures are inspired by the iconic work of Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posadas.

Who is Miss Catrina 2023?

About 20 candidates from different states of Mexico participated in this year’s competition, who demonstrated their knowledge and skills related to Posadas’ work.

The winner of the Miss Catrina 2023 title was Lili Adilene Sánchez Miranda, a 23-year-old girl from the state of Morelia. Lili is a video game engineer and expert in 3D animation, according to her Instagram profile.

The winner proudly shared pictures of her costume on her social networks, which earned her recognition as the best Catrina in 2023. Made up like the iconic skull and dressed in a beautiful illuminated blue suit, Lili stood out among the participants and took home the biggest award.

Other titles have been awarded that turn the winners into cultural ambassadors of the country, explained the portal La Voz de Michoacán.

Alisson Nava, representing the state of Michoacán, placed third as Cultural Ambassador 2023, while Mary José Hidalgo Miranda, from Mexico City, placed second as Miss Catrina México Tradición 2023, the Morelia government said on its website.

This is not the first time that Sánchez has participated in the competition, as pictures from last year’s competition can be seen on her Instagram profile, where she wore a spectacular costume inspired by the monarch butterfly.
