The spokesman for the Israeli Army, Daniel Hagari, raised this Thursday to 224 the number of hostages captured by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamasduring the attack on Israeli soil on October 7. Hagari indicated in a press conference that the figure is not final and that the Israel Defense Forces continue to investigate with the new information that is coming to them.

The number does not include the four hostages who have been released so far by the Islamist organizationwhich controls the Gaza Strip: the mother and daughter Judith and Natalie Raanan, with American nationality and released on Friday, and the elderly Israeli women Yochved Lifshitz and Nurit Cooper, released by Hamas last Monday.

According to data provided by the Israeli Government on Wednesday, more than half of the hostages have foreign passports from about 25 countries. Among those kidnapped there are at least 54 people of Thai nationality.

There are 267 hospitalized

On the other hand, the latest count from the Israeli Ministry of Health indicates that there are still 267 people hospitalized for injuries suffered during the Hamas attack, which left nearly 5,000 injured. Of those people admitted to health centers in Israel, 50 are in serious condition and 106 have already undergone rehabilitation.

Nails 1,400 people lost their lives in the Hamas attack against Israeli territory, of which at least 808 civilians have already been identified, the Israeli Police reported today. This figure represents 84% ​​of the civilians killed by Islamists.

Along with these fatalities there are more of 300 Israeli military and security personnel who died during the Hamas assault on Israel. The process of identifying those killed in that attack is slow since many bodies ended up burned or mutilated. On Wednesday, the Israeli government said it had 328 foreigners from about 40 countries who were dead or missing.
