This Tuesday, Argentina awarded networks for the first time 5G in a tender in which subsidiaries of mobile services of Telephone, America Movil and Telecom Argentinacompanies that will pay the Argentine State US$ 875 million.
“Connectivity is part of the technology and information revolution that the world is experiencing and is part of the new rights with which our society lives today,” stated the Argentine Minister of Economy and official presidential candidate, Sergio Massa.
At the announcement of the auction results, Massa highlighted that the Argentine State will pocket US$ in the next 21 days 875 million for this tender for the radio spectrum band for fifth generation technology services (5G).
The three main communications operators in Argentina participated in the auction: Claro (América Móvil), Movistar (Telefónica) and Personal (Telecom Argentina), which will have a twenty-year concession to use 5G frequencies.
“Welcome competition. Let’s hope that now the competition is for the deployment (of 5G). There are more than US$ 1,000 million that each company has to invest in terms of infrastructure for territorial deployment, generating employment, increasing private investment in Argentina and greater connectivity at a lower price.”Massa said.
According to official data, Argentina, with 46 million inhabitants, had 59.7 million operational cell phone lines at the end of 2022.
