Opponents of Venezuela They celebrated this Monday the triumph of Maria Corina Machado in the primaries that the antichavismo held yesterday to elect who should confront the ruling party in the 2024 presidential elections, in which, however, the former deputy cannot participate, unless the disqualification that prevents her from holding elected office is lifted.
In a statement, the Primero Justicia party (PJ) congratulated Machado, who received 93.13% of the votes, according to the first official bulletin, based on 26.06% of the votes counted, a victory that “ratifies the desires for democracy and freedom” in the country.
The training, which promised to be a “faithful ally in the construction of the path of unity”reiterated his commitment to the “rescue of the political rights of all Venezuelansespecially with the fight for qualifications”, through “mechanisms such as the negotiation process” with the Government, resumed on October 17.
“From today, a new stage begins that will be marked by the citizen, constitutional and legitimate demand for our right to choose. “Venezuela wants and deserves to live in democracy,” expressed PJ, who thanked the voters who participated in the process.
The internal candidate Luis Farías described the results as a “triumph of Venezuela”, and recognized Machado as a “woman who has managed to bring together the great discontent that exists” in the country, according to a video he published on X (formerly Twitter).
“Good luck, my dear friend. Venezuelans want something more than the simple change of one president for another. (…) We place ourselves at your service, to make this great aspiration of the people a reality,” express.
The primary candidate and former deputy Tamara Adrián recognized Machado’s victory and promised, as she said in X, to support her in the “fight for the Presidency and freedom.”
Machado assured today that he will remove President Nicolás Maduro from power in 2024, when the elections in which he hopes to run will be held despite being disqualified from doing so.
Last July, the Comptroller’s Office indicated that the disqualification imposed on Machado in 2015, which at the time was said to last one year, will be extended until 2030, so the former deputy will not be able to hold elected positions, unless the sanction be lifted up.
