Bobithe dog held by the Guinness record of the oldest dog in the world, died on Saturday at his farm in Portugal. He was 31 years and 165 days old.

“Despite having outlasted every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough for those who loved him,” announced Dr. Karen Becker, who was his regular veterinarian, on social media.

The dog, one Rafeiro do Alentejo purebred, achieved the title of oldest dog in the world in February this year. The record was previously held by Bluey, an Australian dog who died in 1939 at the age of 29 years and five months.

Bobi’s age was confirmed by the Veterinary Medical Service of the municipality of Leiria, where he was registered in 1992 by his family, the Costas.

Leonel was Bobi’s teacher. He was 8 years old when the dog was born, and his parents decided to sacrifice the entire litter because they could no longer afford to have any more animals on the farm.

Bobi was the only puppy to escape, and Leonel and his brothers decided to keep it a secret. His parents soon found out, but they allowed him to stay in the family. Bobi was “the last of a long generation of animals,” Leonel said. (JO)
