Elon Musk at war with Brussels. He faces a huge penalty. It’s about fake news about the war in Israel

The European Union accuses the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, of failing to comply with EU regulations. This is about allowing the sharing of fake news in connection with Israel’s war with the Palestinian Hamas. By the end of the month, Brussels will decide whether to initiate formal proceedings, and then Elon Musk’s company may receive a huge fine.

In recent days, the X platform has been flooded with drastic images, lies and terrorism spread by Hamas. This is a terrorist organization that invaded Israel on October 7. As a result of Saturday’s attack by fanatics, 1,300 people died.

accuses Elon Musk of not properly moderating the content disseminated by this organization regarding war on his platform.

Brussels launches an investigation into Elon Musk

A few days ago, Thierry Breton from the European Commission sent an official letter on this matter, a copy of which he made available on the X platform, calling the letter “urgent”. A European official wrote that the European Commission found that “the platform is used to spread illegal content and disinformation in the Internet.”

Elon Musk then mocked the admonishment and, in response to Thierry Breton’s post, said that “our [X-a] policy is openness and transparency of everything, which – as we know – the EU supports”, so it decided to take more radical steps.

The website describes that the European Commission has sent Musk a formal request for information on how it deals with problematic content on the platform. This is a preliminary step before a formal investigation is initiated. The European Union has decided to do so for the first time. Elon Musk now has until October 18 to explain his response to terrorist propaganda and other violent and false content related to the attacks, and until October 31 to provide detailed information on content moderation issues.

They must comply with new EU regulations on Big Tech, specifically the Digital Services Act (DSA). Platform X faces fines totaling up to 6 percent of the company’s global revenues.
