Coach Mendes said that Makhachev’s plan may change in the fight with Volkanovski
Javier Mendez, coach of mixed style fighter Islam Makhachev, spoke about the Russian’s plan for a fight with Australian Alexander Volkanovski. His words are available on the Submission Radio YouTube channel.
“We can change the plan from round to round, from minute to minute. We can do whatever we want because we know that Islam will listen and carry out,” Mendez said. The specialist emphasized that Makhachev is in good shape, so it doesn’t matter who his opponent is.
On October 11, it became known that Volkanovski replaced the injured Brazilian Charles Oliveira. The fight between the Russian and the Australian will take place on October 21 at the UFC 294 tournament in Abu Dhabi.
Volkanovski and Makhachev already met in the Octagon in February 2023. In that fight, the Russian won by unanimous decision.
In total, the 31-year-old Russian had 25 fights in his career, in which he won 24 victories and was defeated only once. The 35-year-old Volkanovski has 26 wins and 2 losses.
